- BSPT (British Standard Pipe Taper)
- British Standards BS 21
- High strength fastener with hexagon (Allen key) drive
- Used for hydraulic and pneumatic applications, natural gas, oil, steam and water
- 3/4″ per foot taper
- Inserted into the end of matching female BSPT threads in pipes and fittings
- Provide a pressure tight seal with no leakage between the threads
- Taper Pressure Plugs seal at pressures up to 5,000 psi and without a sealing compound
- Manufactured in accordance with ASME B31.3
- Alloy steel heat treated to HRC 36-43

BSP sizes do not match up with what you measure on a steel rule. The size system was originally based on the inside diameter of the pipe to be fitted,
To determine the thread size (approximately), measure the outside diameter ().D) of the pipe in imperial/ inches (easiest dimension to take) and subtract 1/4″ or 0.25″ from the O.D measurement. So, if you measure an O.D of !” then the fitting you need is most likely 3/4″ or 0.75″
